How to Verify PAN in Node.js and Python (Tested Tutorial)
To verify a PAN in Node.js or Python, POST {"pan": "ABCDE1234F"} (optional "name") to https://api-b2b.stampmitra.in/v1/verify/pan with an Authorization: Bearer header, using a key from the STAMPMITRA_API_KEY environment variable. Validate the format first, set a timeout, retry only 429 and 5xx with backoff, and log referenceId, never the PAN.
API Errors and Handling: 400, 402, 403, 429 and 502
Every StampMitra API error returns error.code, error.message and error.requestId. Retry only 429 (with exponential backoff and jitter) and 502 (a few bounded attempts). Never retry 400, 401, 403 or 404, and treat 402 as a wallet top-up problem, not a code problem. Always log the requestId, and send it to [email protected] if an incident continues after you check the status page.
Sandbox vs Production API Keys: Scopes, IP Allowlists and Go-Live
On StampMitra the environment is resolved server-side from the key: sk_test_ runs in sandbox and never debits your wallet, sk_live_ runs in production and needs KYC approval. Sandbox has a lifetime quota that returns a 429. Any key can be limited to an IP/CIDR allowlist, and sensitive scopes like PAN and RC default to requiring one.
